January 11, 2012, I took her to another doctor and was informed that we need to take her to Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF) immediately. Upon our arrival several test were performed and I was told that she has 5% heart function and is being scheduled for open heart surgery: she has a rare condition called ALCAPA.
January 14, 2013, my daughter had open heart surgery. This surgery increase her heart function to 40%. Significant damage occurred because Kym Ella Grace condition was not detected promptly.
We were released from CCF February 24, 2013. Her heart is stable, yet she still has to have various test four to five times a month, she still has total blockage of the left coronary valve, and there are still many hurdles to bare.
Kym Ella Grace's recovery has been a long road of cardiologist, respiratory therapist, dieticians, nuclear medicines, nurses, doctors, child life caregivers, radiologist, and insurance companies that have aided in her recovery. She currently remains on 7 medications to compensate her damaged heart
